What an extraordinary day. There's snow in the streets; the so-called polar vortex continues to hold the city in its icy grip; predictably, the usual grumblings will ensue about how irresponsible it is for the mayor and the chancellor to NOT close the public schools. I admit it, even I had my moment of shock and incredulity. Annoyance too. But as I emerged from my parking space and collided with the frigid gusts of air, I was in awe. Awe. There is no other word for it. I inhaled and exhaled, inhaled and exhaled -- and as I did so, my whole being was rocked by the splendor and transcendence of living! Inhale and exhale. That's enough. What more can one ask for? Inhale, exhale. The simplicity of the air coursing through your lungs, powering your pulse, flouting the extraordinary odds against your very existence. Awe. Splendor of air. Inhale and exhale and let the snow be damned. You are here, so dance about it, sing, make exclamations that beat, that shred any submissions to the contrary. And make them loudly, with all the splendorous air in your lungs. That's enough. You are here. But inside of you, lies God's kitchen, the chemistry kit of the universe, the respiration of saints and stars and dreams.
That's enough.
That's enough.
